Directions
- Sift flour once before measuring.
- Sift flour and salt together and cut in shortening, leaving some of the shortening in lumps the size of giant peas.
- Add just enough water (a little at a time) to make dough stay together.
- Roll out dough about 1/8 inch thick and cut it into 7-inch squares.
- Lay the squares in a baking pan.
- Pare and core the apples and pace place an apple in the center of each square.
- Fill the cored center of each apple with sugar and cinnamon, then dot with butter.
- Fold the points up over the apples, sealing well.
- The dumplings should be about 2 inches apart in the pan.
- Place the pan in the refrigerator and chill.
